About Counselling
Counselling is a weekly fifty-minute session with your counsellor, which offers you the opportunity to work towards a greater self-awareness and understanding of what is troubling you. Developing a deeper understanding can lead to new ways of coping with feelings and situations. It can enable you to move from feeling trapped or overwhelmed by circumstances, towards seeing a clearer picture and empowering you to approach life in a fresh and more resourceful way.
In your sessions, your counsellor will listen very carefully to you, developing the relationship between you both, in order that together you can explore and try to understand both conscious and more hidden aspects of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, which may be contributing to your suffering and unhappiness - this is the Psychodynamic approach to counselling.
Talking things through and hearing yourself express your thoughts and feelings, often for the first time, is a process which will help you to move towards a place of more insight and self-awareness and greater control and happiness in your life.
